
THE 54th – Hey how are you doing? Tell us a bit about your background, your name, where you are from, where you grew up?
TYSON PHOTO – My name is James Kwaku Owusu Agyekum. Aka Tyson. I am an Ashanti and I grew up in Accra Dansoman.
THE 54th – When was the first time you picked up a camera?
TYSON PHOTO – The first time I picked up a camera was in November 2018.

THE 54th – 2018, wow that wasn’t so long ago. What would you say was that moment where you went “God I love photography so much, I want to do it, I want to learn it”
TYSON PHOTO – Lexonart made me love photography.


THE 54th – How would you characterize your niche in photography?
TYSON PHOTO – I don’t actually have a niche. I want to Jack of all trades who actually mastered all. Everything photography. I want to be there.

THE 54th – Were you self taught or you learnt under someone?
TYSON PHOTO – Self taught. Big thanks to YouTube University and try and errors.

THE 54th – Does music have an important role to play when you are shooting? Does it help in getting your models to show the emotions you are looking for?
TYSON PHOTO – Yes! Music helps a lot. A shoot without music is a boring one. Sometimes when the poses aren’t coming we turn to dance for poses. And even during post production music is my friend.

THE 54th – Do you ever criticize your own work?
TYSON PHOTO – A lot. There are times I finish editing and tell myself I didn’t do it well. I sometimes keep my edits to myself for two months before posting them because I wasn’t feeling it.


THE 54th – To achieve your tones and color grading when taking the pictures do you temper with the lighting so when editing you would be able to achieve your desired grading?
TYSON PHOTO – Color grading is actually my favorite part of editing. I am not a master of lighting because I usually prefer natural lights so mostly my color grading is 90 percent from editing.

THE 54th – What does your work as a photographer try to explore?
TYSON PHOTO– I am yet to find out.

THE 54th – What do you do to make your clients feel comfortable being in front of the camera?
TYSON PHOTO – Mostly smile a lot and ask them if they feel comfortable. Sometimes crack jokes or put on their fav music.

THE 54th – What techniques do you use to capture emotion in photos?
TYSON PHOTO – 😅I Just direct the model on how I want the picture to feel like.


THE 54th – How do you come up with such amazing concepts for your photos? Is there a mood you to be in to achieve such concept?
TYSON PHOTO – I mostly get them from movies, music videos, Pinterest or Behance.


THE 54th – Is there something you really want to achieve in the world of photography?
TYSON PHOTO – I want to be the photographer whose pictures speak out to people.

THE 54th – How are you carving out your own path in the creative industry? How do you ensure to be different and to be able to stand out?
TYSON PHOTO – Photography is art and every artist have their own style. I always try to create a new style for myself.
THE 54th – What skill do you want to improve on as a photographer?
TYSON PHOTO – After mastering color grading I want to be good at lighting.

THE 54th – When you started, what was your first camera/gear? Did you start big or did you start small then you gradually climbed the ladder?
TYSON PHOTO – My first camera was a canon 1200d and I used a kit lens on it.


THE 54th – As a creative and photographer, are there any other photographer you would love to work with?
TYSON PHOTO – I’d love to work with Lexonart one day.
THE 54th – What obstacles do you face as a photographer in your country?
TYSON PHOTO – The cost of production. And also most clients don’t respect the work.

THE 54th – With how everyday there’s a new trend and technology, how do you ensure that you stay in the trend? Do you try to keep up with it? Or you try to stay away from trends?
TYSON PHOTO – I always try to keep up. Change is part of life and we have to learn something new everyday.

THE 54th – Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to start out as a photographer or creative?
TYSON PHOTO – They should be prepared to spend😂. But on a real, it’s all about consistency. If you are consistent with your work you will succeed. And try and error is part of the job. We literally learn on the job.
